Documents Required to File ITR
Now that you know what is ITR, you must also be aware of the required documents to file an ITR. Below are the details about the same:
PAN (Permanent Account Number): PAN is a mandatory requirement for filing ITR in India. Ensure you have a valid PAN card linked with Aadhar Card.
Aadhaar Card: Aadhaar card details may be required for verification of ITR.
Form 16: If you are a salaried individual, your employer will provide you with Form 16, which contains details of your salary, deductions, and taxes deducted at source (TDS).
Bank Statements: Gather bank statements for all your savings accounts, current accounts, fixed deposits, recurring deposits, etc., for the financial year for which you are filing the ITR.
Investment Proofs: If you have made investments in tax-saving instruments such as Employee Provident Fund (EPF), Public Provident Fund (PPF), National Savings Certificates (NSC), Life Insurance Premiums, Equity Linked Saving Scheme (ELSS), etc., gather the relevant investment proofs or statements.

How to File ITR
Filing an Income Tax Return (ITR) in India can be done through online mode. You need to register yourself as taxpayer on income tax portal or if you’re already registered, you need to login using your credentials. Choose the correct ITR form as per your income category. Fill the form with correct information and disclose every financial transaction you’ve done in the form. After completing the filling process, submit the form and verify your ITR. Verification can easily be done using Aadhar OTP, or bank account based EVC. You can also opt to post hard copy of ITR-V for verification
